The best thing about making your own makeup? It’s free, it’s clean, and it’s very green. Using things you find around your house you can easily create some incredible DIY cosmetics and products and most of the ingredients are sitting in your pantry. Over the years I’ve begun making my own DIY cosmetics because I was unhappy with the price tag of traditional makeup and the ingredients can be toxic.
Many of your favorite makeup or cleaning products still continue to test on animals despite the overwhelming opinion that it is unnecessary and cruel. By making your own DIY cosmetic products with ethically sourced ingredients you’re saving the planet, the animals, and your wallet.
A word to the wise? You’re going to need to buy some arrowroot powder for your DIY cosmetics.

While blush is not considered a crucial part of your beauty routine having pallid skin can be a let down. If you want to add a little color to the apples of your cheeks check out this quick and easy recipe.
You will need:
  • 1/4 cup Arrowroot Powder
  • 1/4 cup Beetroot Powder
  • An empty repurposed jar
If you have a little container or jar available that you have laying around and waiting to be repurposed throw both of those two simple and clean ingredients into it and seal tightly. Use a beauty blender or brush for application.

Making your own eyeshadow may seem like a daunting and intimidating task but there are only a few simple ingredients you need in order to make your eyes shimmer and shine!
You will need:
  • 1/2 tsp Arrowroot powder
  • 1/2 tsp Bentonite Clay
  • Jojoba Oil
  • Colorants: Activated Charcoal, Spirulina, Beetroot Power, or Mica Power
The first two ingredients are crucial for making the eyeshadow base. When you have made the base you can use a natural ingredient for color. Activate Charcoal will make a smokey black, spirulina will make a green, beetroot will make a pink, and mica will make a light champagne color. Combine the arrowroot and bentonite clay with the desired amount of pigment and add a few drops of jojoba oil until the mixture begins to stick together. Put into a small container and apply with fingers or makeup brushes!

No one wants to smell less than their best and that’s why I make my own homemade deodorant in order to ensure that I am well protected from perspiration and the sensitive area under my arms is not being exposed to chemicals from traditional deodorant.
You will need:
  • 5 tbs unrefined Coconut Oil
  • 1/2 cup Arrowroot powder
  • 1/2 cup Baking Powder
  • 30 Drops Essential Oil
Mix the dry ingredients together before combining with the coconut oil and essential oil. I recommend using an essential oil with antibacterial properties such as tea tree, grapefruit, cinnamon, citronella, eucalyptus, or lavender. Combine everything in an air-tight sealed container, I use a Mason jar. This deodorant can last up to six months!

Full coverage foundation makes for a flawless red-carpet ready finish but contains a lot of bad ingredients that clog your pores. It’s much easier to make your own so you know exactly what is going all over your face.
You will need:
  • 1 tbs – 1 tsp Arrowroot power (dependent on skin tone)
  • Cocoa, cinnamon, or nutmeg (dependent on skin tone)
  • Jojoba Oil
Mix all the dry ingredients together and continuously test color mixture on the side of your neck to be able to match your exact skin tone. When that is complete begin with 5 drops of jojoba oil and go up from there until you reach your desired texture.
